About

Knitting, quilting, beading, chain maille, counted cross stitch, needlepoint, crochet, object art, and anything else that comes to hand – I’m always willing to try something new, and usually get obsessive about it. When I’m not reading, I’m usually doing one of the above (outside of work hours, that is).

I’ve also got the usual UFOs, and deep-space UFOs (i.e., the materials for projects that I don’t really know what I’m going to do yet, but one of these days it will all click, and I’ll start yet *another* project); and I’ve got a bead stash, a yarn stash, a fabric stash, an embroidery floss stash, a crochet thread stash, a button stash, and agates that I’ve collected that someday I’ll polish and turn into jewelery.

Finding room for everything is tricky, but I’ve taken to putting skeins of yarn on empty spots on the bookcases (not that there are many empty spaces, because I’ve also got a major book stash – culling only delays the inevitable). And what about craft books? That’s sort of a bonus for me, crafts and books all in one!

Brian is ingenious about finding new ways to hang my beading looms, helps me carry my design wall up and down stairs, doesn’t complain about having the dining room table covered with 3 different projects at any one time (he does roll his eyes occasionally when I tell him I’m going to the bead store, or when I take another class on some new technique I want to try, be it quilting, knitting, beading, or whatever).

The dog sighs whenever I sit down at the sewing machine, or pull my current knitting project onto my lap, and tries to tease me into playing rope with him – if I’m not under deadline, I’ll usually chase him around or growl at him while we each have an end of the rope. But I’m usually under deadline – somebody’s birthday, wedding, baby shower, Christmas – almost everything I make is for someone else. I do make something for myself every once in a while, but mostly I love to give away what I’ve made.

Several years ago I took a spinning class, and I really enjoyed it. One of these days I plan to buy a spinning wheel – finding someplace to put it is the main reason I haven’t done so yet. And I really want to learn to weave; again, I don’t have anywhere to put even a small loom. Time? Well, I can always make time to work on projects.

Matter of fact, that’s where I’m going as soon as I’m done here. Bye!
